West Bengal Public Service Commission
The participating universities, including esteemed institutions such as Jadavpur University, Calcutta University, and Presidency University, have collaborated to implement this innovative initiative, prioritizing students' diverse needs and aspirations. The new policy will be effective from the upcoming academic year, August 2023.
This groundbreaking decision has been made in response to students' evolving demands and aspirations. It recognizes that not all students wish to pursue a full four-year undergraduate degree and may have different career goals that can be accomplished within three years. With this exit option's introduction, students can tailor their academic journey to their interests and requirements. To execute the smooth implementation of the new policy, participating universities will offer comprehensive academic counseling and guidance to students. This will ensure that students are well-informed about the potential pathways and opportunities available upon completing their UG programs. Students will also have the option to rejoin the university later to continue their studies and earn a full undergraduate degree, should they choose to do so.
The introduction of the exit option after three years in undergraduate programs reflects the progressive approach of West Bengal's higher education system. By offering increased flexibility, universities aim to equip students with a competitive edge in the dynamic job market while respecting their aspirations and preferences. Students are kindly advised to refer to their universities' official announcements and communications for more information and specific guidelines for the new exit option.
