81 Temporary batches of Class 11th in Kerala allowed last year to continue in 2023-24

The Kerala government approved on Wednesday the continuation of the 81 temporary batches that were allowed last year to ensure that there are enough seats for Class 11 admissions in Kerala's higher secondary schools as the new academic year begins in June.

According to a statement from the government, a decision was made at a Cabinet meeting that was presided over by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to keep the temporary batches and increase marginal seats in higher secondary schools for the upcoming school year. Of the 81 transitory groups, the greater part is in the humanities stream, 20 in science and 10 in business, it said. It stated that marginal seats in government higher secondary schools would increase by 30% in seven districts—Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. It also stated that marginal seats in aided higher secondary schools in Kollam, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts would increase by 20%.

According to the statement, those aided higher secondary schools that demand the same will be permitted an additional 10% marginal increase in seats.
